How to Make Better Home Movies
In these days of digital cameras, mobile phones and camcorders, almost anyone can make a movie. But if you don't want to find you've accidentally taken one of your feet walking, here are some tips.
No matter what you are using to shoot the movie, make sure you are familiar with the workings before you start. There is nothing more frustrating than to miss a great piece of action because you forgot which button to press. So read the manual then practice, practice, practice.
Plan ahead for great shots. While spontaneity is great, you still need to think ahead, even if you're already shooting. If you are shooting indoors, turn on all the lights and don't use the flash.. This will prevent your mood lighting being ruined and improve the quality a great deal.
Listen out for background sounds. The noise of a mower or siren in the background will really spoil that birthday party movie. Use the eyepiece to check out the video footage, as it will give you a truer picture of the final result.
Hold every shot for at least 10 seconds. It will cost you next to nothing - except time - and you'll find the rerun will be greatly improved.
Watch for details. Sometimes you can be so intent on watching the action you don't notice something that is really unsightly in the background.
